Planet Youth Data Tool

The Planet Youth data tool has been adapted for use in Timmins and will be completed every two years with grade 10 students for the duration of the five-year pilot project.

  • The Planet Youth approach is supported by information obtained from the Planet Youth questionnaire.

  • This anonymous, comprehensive lifestyle questionnaire is administered to all grade 10 students in Timmins.

  • The data from the questionnaire is analyzed and results are shared widely with the goal of providing our community with the information needed to develop interventions based on local data.

    • These interventions are designed to address identified risk and protective factors. The Planet Youth data provides the opportunity to improve the health and well-being of young people, and to improve the social environment they are growing up in.

Questionnaire

The Planet Youth data tool asks questions about risk and protective factors related to youth substance use. This includes questions about how a young person spends their leisure time, school, peer group, family and community. There are also questions about rates, patterns and perceptions of substance use among youth.

Results

Surveys will be done every other year for the duration of the five-year pilot project. Reports made from the anonymous data collected from grade 10 students will be returned in 6-8 weeks. This allows for the most up-to-date snapshot of what the youth substance use risk and protective factors are in our community right now.

Post-Survey

The data collected is analyzed by researchers and made into a report on the local risk and protective factors for substance use and overall well-being. The data is very important because the key findings drive localized plans and strategies. The frequency of the survey also allows local teams to revisit the data and track progress every two years.
